Macedonia is located on the Balkan Peninsula, in Southeastern Europe bordering Greece, Serbia, Albania and Bulgaria.
It is a country where Slavic, Albanian and Turkish people have lived together for centuries and have created the unique mix of cultural heritage. Bottom line, Macedonia is a place where the Turkish bourek and French croissant co-exist in harmony.
Identifiable by the priceless frescoes and icons and stunning Orthodox churches and monasteries, old mosques and bazaars, Macedonia is treasury of historic and cultural wealth, including those at Stoby (Gradsko), Heraclea Lyncetis (Bitola), Lyhnidos (Ohrid) and Skupi (Skopje).
Although Macedonia offers its visitors historic sights and outstanding natural beauty in form of scenic mountains and lakes, the country is still largely undiscovered tourist destination.
Numerous monuments of the past and some of the present times are found in and around Skopje, the capital of the Republic of Macedonia. Kale fortress which dominates the whole Skopje valley, the Old Bazaar, which is the biggest bazaar, preserved in the Balkans today, the Stone Bridge as a corridor of civilizations, the monastery of Matka, the Mother Theresa memorial, erected on the spot where she was born and many others.
But, Skopje offers incredible nightlife and shopping opportunities as well.
Called “the land of the lakes“, Macedonia is mostly recognizable by the lake of Ohrid, the deepest lake of the Balkans and one of the oldest in the world, declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
The Mavrovo region is a major tourist and recreational destination in Macedonia, known for the ski resort, mountain bike, hiking, the Mavrovo Lake and the National park as well. Popova Sapka is also another popular ski center in Macedonia.
If you once come to Macedonia, be sure you will return again, because at the end this is a country of yummy flavors, great legends and nice, pleasant and friendly people.

DEAR BUDDIES, TEAM ESCORTS, GUESTS and others |
We are looking forward to your visit and participation in the 25. FIA European Traffic Education Contest.
BUDDIES, YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE...
- Remember to show consideration for others. I'm sure you are grateful when others show consideration for you too.
- Do you like playing as much as I do? There's loads of space for that in designated areas of the Hotel Continental.

- A top cyclist also needs a good night's sleep! So, please don't make any more noise after 10 p.m so that those who want to sleep have enough peace to do so.
- I also like things clean! So please keep the accommodation facilities (recreation rooms, bedrooms and toilets/showers) tidy and don't throw anything out of the windows.
- Now and then things can break or be faulty or don't work properly. If that happens. Please tell the accompanying adult.
- Do you know how many people have worked hard to get this competition off the ground? A lot! If any problem arises, please be patient and pay attention to the instructions of your team couches.
TEAM ESCORTS, DRIVERS, GUESTS AND OTHERS
Thank you very much for your willingness to accompany and look after the children during the European Traffic Education Contest of the FIA.
This competition is an event dedicated to improve the safety of children in road traffic. We all have to make a big effort to show these children how to behave properly in traffic. So please set a good example!
- Please be quiet after 10 p.m so that the children can rest.
- There is a restaurant, as well as recreation rooms in the Hotel Continental. You can spend as much time chatting there as you want. By the way: no alcoholic drinks in the team accommodation facilities!
- Anyone who wants to smoke must do so outside. No smoking
in the accommodation facilities, dining and assembly rooms or in the competition hall!
- Car and bus drivers, please remember: always fasten seatbelts and follow the traffic regulations! The children will learn a lot from you.
- The students will help you with any questions and accompany you throughout the competition. But they are not babysitters and therefore are not responsible for the children. That responsibility lies firmly with the team coaches!
- Please ensure that all the rooms and sanitary facilities are kept clean and tidy and that nothing is thrown out of the windows.

- Please check the rooms before departing and make sure that nothing is missing or gets left behind and that the rooms are clean. If anything is faulty, please let an organiser know.
- The competition organisers are making every effort to ensure that the competition goes smoothly. However, things can occasionally go wrong. Be patient and show understanding. Please remember that the organiser's hair has been rapidly turning grey!
